But I have the software...

Having design software on my computer does not make me a designer.
Using the design software to create a designer might KIND of make me a designer, but it doesn't make me a good one.
Using the design that I created, all on my own,  using that software makes me something else altogether.

Not All Donut Shops Are The Same

I had just been to Voo Doo Donuts; overhyped the guide book warned, but nonetheless, a spot to hit in Portland. The donut was still only half eaten in my purse.

My  airplane seatmate had also been to Voodoo Donuts, but not the one I had, not the original, which, he told me, was 'a little bit grotty" a place to have one's wedding, which is what he had done in Voodoo Donuts. The less grotty Voodoo Donuts, that is.

His family had flown in and made the trek to Voodoo Donuts for the wedding, but the bride's sister had refused saying that it was, in her opinion, spiritually unsafe.

I wondered if her objections would have been less at a Tim Horton's or a Krispy Kreme. Not all donut shops are created equal, I realized. Not all are ideal for a wedding.

Practice makes perfect

Your mother probably told you that. If not, maybe a math teacher, or a piano teacher or baseball coach. If you do things over and over, you remember how it is done. Beyond remembering, in fact, you enter the process into muscle memory and reflex.

Weird, that the opposite is also true. If you DON'T do things over and over, you DON'T remember them. Logical, but weird and kind of annoying.

Not so Obvious

I have not been blogging at all for some time. I was trying to get back to a blog that I am a contributor on and I couldn't figure out how to post, although I had done so many times previously. Weird.

Difficult

It is really really hard to be half a world apart from the one I love. Fifteen timezones is hard to calculate and the circadium rhythms are all upside down, morning to evening, bedtime to lunch, holy mackeral, I expected it to be a challenge, but this is crazy.

You Don't Have to Eat it All

I realized that the days of finish everything on the plate are long gone.

I was out to breakfast the other morning with my daughter and a friend of hers. As it turned out she and I were going to order the same thing. I suggested that we split it, I wasn't going to eat a whole omelette and she wasn't either. It was the perfect thing to do, because I probably would have eaten more than I need to if not everything on my plate.

Her friend didn't even come close to eating half of her order of french toast.

The mentality of finish it all. Do it all. Get it all done is maybe not the right way to go. Working out in the yard past dark. Doing all the weeding. Over doing it until I become a wreck.

I don't have to do all my laundry on one day. I can do a load here and there. I don't have to do all the filing, get a good start and be happy. Stuff will get put away when it gets put away, I don't have to unpack my suitcase the day I get home from a trip.

I don't have to eat it all.

Yoga Is Hard

I don't know why it still seems to amaze me that yoga is hard. I took a class last night sort of returning to the discipline after a vacation from it. I felt all my muscles that at one time were able to stretch, now all tight again.

I really like the feeling of working my body and it is nice to be at the gym on a Friday night getting some blood flow and some flexibility and balance, but yoga is quite hard, especially if I don't keep it up.

Exercise is Good For You

I figured this out almost all by myself.

I know that long term regular exercise is supposed to be good for you and leads to a healthier life.

But did you know that I feel good after working out? I mean, really, I went to the gym yesterday and I felt good while I was exercising and I felt good when I got back to the office. That put a smile on my face and that is really good for me.

Time Doesn"t Stand Still

Getting older?

Seasons changing?

Days, weeks, months and years marching along?

Guess what? Time doesn't stand still.

McDonalds Should Pay Me

Again today I remembered that McDonalds had to put a warning on its coffee cups that the beverage inside might be hot. Caution. Hot coffee is hot. Beerages made with boiling water are hot and may burn if you pour them in your lap or onto your tongue without due care.

I scoff, but again today I burned by tongue on a cup of tea that I tried to sip mere moments after pouring water from the kettle over the tea bag.

If only there were a way to get McDonalds to compensate me for my sore tongue.
